Guzheng × Jazz New Spring Fusion Music
A musical program carefully rearranged from a contemporary jazz perspective to celebrate the Year of the Horse! The Blue Study's curator, Siu Wai Chung, draws on his diverse and broad musical experience — including American jazz, Brazilian Bossa Nova, and Argentine tango — to infuse traditional melodies with new harmonic colors, rhythmic layers, and improvisational spaces, offering audiences a fresh musical perspective while preserving the festive spirit.
The performance features Grammy Yeung, a guzheng performer, who graduated from the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Yeung's performances have taken her across Asia and Europe, and she has recently held several guzheng solo concerts in London. Siu, who is also the bassist and arranger for this performance, uses his delicate and cross-genre musical language to create a rich dialogue between the guzheng and the jazz band, making the overall music both substantial and exploratory.
Together with other band members, pianist/keyboardist Lok King-mo and drummer Kwok Siu-hang, the two musicians present a warm, vibrant, and creative Lunar New Year performance, welcoming the new year with the audience in a blend of tradition and innovation.
